Auxillery water pump.
« on: 01 November 2006, 23:29:54 »

As i've just crossed over to Vauxhall I could do with a bit of advise!!!!

Two questions....

I have a 1999 T reg 2.5 TD (BMW Engine)Elite and after poking around under the bonnet I discovered an electric auxilery water pump mounted on the O/S inner wing (near the header tank)

Can anyone tell me what the correct operation is for these ie when they turn on,how long they stay on for and also what controls them (switches them on/off)?????

The reason I ask is because the same type of pump is fitted to both my Renault 21 Turbos. On those it is used to keep coolant flowing round the turbo after the engine is switched off and to prevent the turbo bearings overheating.
It is controlled by a time delay relay that switches off after approx 12 minutes.

I was wondering if this was a similar setup on the Omega's....coz if so mine doesn't work  :'(

And finally.....I would have bought a Haynes manual, but apparently it doesn't cover the Turbo Diesel,so was wondering if anyone has used the 'service discs' that are available on Fleabay??
I don't like to own a car that i've got no information for as I'm a qualified Techy and will be doing all the maintainence myself.

Thanx in advance

Not sure its there for the turbo - hardly a high performance part on these cars. I think (but not sure) it comes on if you turn climate on with ignition off, but would have to check on mine later.

We are unable to allow discussion of illegally acquiring TIS2000 CDs - ebay ones obviously will be hooky.

However, TIS (if you are legally obtain a copy) isn't too bad once you get used to it.  Diagrams could be better quality.

Engine aside, Haynes would still be useful for rest of car, esp if you pick one up cheap from ebay etc...
