Specialist in Herts/Beds/North London?
« on: 26 November 2006, 10:54:00 »

Hi all,

New to this forum and only had the Omega a month or so.

Can anyone recommend a competent Omega garage in the Herts/Beds/North London area?

I've got a 1998 2.5 V6 Elite which could do with new rocker cover gaskets (Is this a job that needs to be done sooner rather than later once they start leaking?) and to cure it happening again I'd like the breathers cleaned out. Although I've seen the guides for these jobs on this site which look fairly straight forward I'm not a natural mechanic and time is at a premium at the moment.

Cheers all,

Chris

Hi Full_Chat and welcome.

These guys are the only VX dealer I've come across that actually seem to know what they're talking about, but they're not that close to you.

Evans Halshaw

Ashley Green Road
Chesham
Buckinghamshire
HP5 3PG
t: 01494 793999

Edit.  Forgot to mention.  They'll give you a courtesy car if you ask.

Mods.  'Hillper boot release'.  Dimming mirror.  Cruise control. Rear parking sensors.  Becker/Rockford Fosgate/Infinity/Alpine audio.

I used West-End Vauxhall, they have garages in Staples Corner (near Brent cross) and further south in Edgware Road, they are OKeesh and not too expensive for a main dealer garage (try the nearby Toyota garage...). I also used Currys in Stamford Hill, again OKeesh. There is also a Vx dealer in Edgware but I haven't tried them. Hope this helps....

The Vx dealer in Edgware (Northern Motors) has gone. I use West End Vauxhall at Staples corner whenever I need spares. For general garage work, we're a bit stuffed round here. However, I can recommend Kipling Motorists Centres in Hemel Hempstead. I went there for a full geometry check when Wheels In Motion was training the Kipling staff. I have to say that the mechanics are cheerful, friendly and competent. Also, they charge less for labour than Vx rates. As to whether they would want to do the cam gaskets and breathers, I don't know, but I know they do general mechanical work (clutches, servicing, etc) in addition to fast fit bits. If you want a contact and phone number, send me a PM.

The message above was obviously meant for Full_Chat, sorry about that. I forgot to mention that, in my opinion, you don't need to be an Omega specialist to do the cam gaskets and breathers....just competent (mind you, that's rare in the notor trade these days  ::).

If you want it done properly, do it yourself.

Evans Halshaw in MK are incompetent, and gave me my car back in a dangerous condition (was fine before it went in).  The service manager lied to me (as I was told by one of his own staff). I would never entrust my safety to this company again.

Thanks for all the replies, on balance it seems like I'm best using the car as is (hopefully a 1,000 or so easy miles won't make it worsen) up until Christmas when I know I've got the time off work to do the job myself, thanks for the specialist names though, very useful to have handy just in case.

Don't let it start to misfire, and it may also damage leads if there is a lot of oil about.

You might want to check with Jim Grayson on the vauxhall mechanics site.
He's in MK (ex Luton man of 30 years - what he dont know about vauxhalls aint worth knowing) and does all the work in his own garage.
He'd cetainly tell you whether to go ahead and what he'd charge.
Worth a punt I reckon
