Reversing lights and fog lights
« on: 10 December 2006, 21:22:23 »

Seem to have a problem with the rear fogs and reversing lights.  When i put it in reverse the fog light dash light comes on but not the reversing lights. If i put the rear fogs on the dash light comes on but the lights themselves dont!! Anyone got any ideas??? Bit of an odd one i think!!

That is an odd one!
It could suggest a short/ bad earth somewhere.....try disconnecting one rear light cluster at a time to see if the other light cluster behaves.

If you have a voltmeter check for 12v at the rear light clusters reversing light wire (when in reverse, engine off, ign on) Iirc its white with a black stripe

well, seeing as both of those go to the trailer wiring AFAIK, I'd recommend you check that, the plug is in the boot behind the lock - you need to remove the trim panel from the lip of the boot to get to it ...

Also have you changed a bulb recently? The ones with dual filaments in can cause this sort of problem if they are forced in the wrong way round.

Found the cause of the problem. One of the wires where they go into the bootlid had broken due to the constant flexing when opening and closing the bootlid. Repaired the wire and everything is OK again!

Thanks for the suggestions anyway guys.

Did you also remember to evict the electrical gremlin whilst you were there?
Otherwise the nasty little bugger will be back somewhere else
