But, if it gets written off it will need to be re MOT'd before it can be driven again no matter when the last test was.  :(

Why?  VIC test is not an MOT to my knowledge.....
VIC is Vehicle Identity Check to establish the true ID of the vehicle and that its not a ringer.  Different from a roadworthyness test, although a number of checks are similar.....

I don't know why, it just does.  ;)

When my wife's car was written off for cosmetic damage to the bonnet, (paint damage caused by an errant road sign in a storm) she had to get it MOT'd again before it could be insured and not at the local MOT station but at a VOSA depot.

New one on me.  Will make some enquiries tomorrow but sounds like a VIC and MOT being confused somewheres.....

Happy to defer. You're bigger than me and not many people can claim that.  ;)

I would be very interested to find out though. Mrs GB was adamant that she got MOT but then she can't cook a haggis without giving herself 3rd degree burns.  ::)

That doesn't make sense.
If for instance your older car gets keyed, it will likely be written off as an uneconomic repair even though the damage hasn't affected the roadworthyness of the vehicle.
On the other hand a new car could sustain quite major structural damage and still in the eyes of the assessor be an economic repair and thus not written off.
I wonder would my second example need to be inspected by VOSA after repair before being used on the road again?
It would seem that someone has confused the insurance company's reason for write off which is purely financial with the roadworthyness of the vehicle which is a matter for engineers inspection.
I don't doubt what your saying Golfbuddy, I just doubt the logic of doing it. As you say there was no structural damage to Mrs Golfbuddys motor but it still needed VOSA inspection.

Ive never managed to write a car off yet  ;D
But i have done nearly 10k worth of damage to a nearly new car once that got repaired......that didnt need mot or inspection by VOSA

Looks like I'm talking bo**ox again. (Wouldn't be the first time and surely won't be the last)  :-[ Mrs GB did have to get hers MOT'd at the VOSA depot in Camborne but perhaps this was a condition of the insurance company and not a legal requirement?

Sorry for confusing the matter. I'll get me coat!  :-[ :-[
