fitting towbar

i'm sure fitting a towbar isn't a mammoth task, however with minimalist fitting instructions and no workshop manual it's turning out to be not  such a bundle of laughs...

it's a swan neck type (bosal).

i've only got as far as removing the bumber - how??

then drill the 'dints in the boot'?  (i know where prehaps they should be, but i can't tell where they are...)

and how exactly does that huge plate (part of the kit) bolt underneath?? (presumably above the fuel tank, but below the bottom of the boot...)

if you could help me out, i'd be very appreciative.

i've worked out where it goes, and about the 'dints'...

still not too sure how best to get the bumper off though!

Are you sure you need to take the bumper off?

I fitted a towsure detachable towbar to my pre-facelift and it was not necessary.  As i recall there are 6 bolts through the floor pan - be carefully drilling these as you do not want to hole the fuel tank (should miss it however it is not that close) plus 3 behind the rear bumper.  There is loads of room to reach up behind the bumper to find them.

I think if you have a facelift you may need to cut the bumper a bit but that's about it.

Jonathanh is correct. The bumper can be left in situ, you just have to get you hand up between the bumper and the back of the car to put the nuts on the 3 rear facing bolts. There is a cut out at the bottom of the bumper but I just cut either end and bent it up slightly out of the way. Be careful you dont lose the two tubes for the forward most bolts in the chassis.  :-? Make sure you remove the bitumen type sound proof from the boot floor under the 'huge plate'.
I removed my 'Forth Bridge' constructed Witter type to put a Bosal on - far neater, and the swan neck can be removed in a couple of minutes to give a clutter free car.
