Wasted morning & lessons learnt?
« on: 11 September 2006, 09:37:29 »

Well my drivers door arrived Fri from a breakers on eBay, very well packaged, so promising I thought.
Unpacked it Sat morning & first impressions were good, just a very small rust spot on the bottom corner, but then I noticed that there was no check strap, wouldn't have been too bad if had just been removed, but it had been cut out so no chance of swapping mine over.
As it was much better than the dented one I currently have (& I had some help) I decided to put it on anyway & keep looking for another one.
All went well until putting the electrics connector on, it just wouldn't go on. Took the door back off & the connection is totally different :(
It was from a ’98 CD, so either the connection was changed at some point or the lower spec cars are just different (my fault I guess for not checking), so my original door went back on. I’ve emailed the guy that sent it (haven’t left feedback yet), saying that the door is no good to me because of the strap & wait & see what he comes back with.

So i thought I’d top up the gearbox, but when I got under I didn’t see the 13mm sump plug that I expected, but one with an Allen key!?
It wouldn’t budge, tried freeing oil & ring spanner to make an extension with the Allen key but still wouldn’t move. Got frustrated & tried the trusty hammer but all that did was bend the key, so I gave up.

OK I thought; lets change the fuel filter, what a fiddly pain the ar$e job that was, but got it done eventually, so got 1 out of 3 jobs done, bit fed up, so needed cheering up [smiley=beer.gif]

Similar thing happened to me with my MV6.

The passenger side door lock stopped working reliably and finally gave up the ghost by deadlocking itself and not opening again!!  >:(

So I thought it's the same mechanism as a Senator, I'll just use one of the spares I'e got lying around!! WRONG!!!

So I thought I'll use the one off my Staples2Naples banger, so removed the locking mechanism from that! WRONG again!! the connectors were totally different.

So I ended up having to buy a new one at around £50!!!  >:(

Its sods law, many a time has a simple job turned into a weekend thing. You can guarantee that the last nut or bolt you are undoing will snap and the parts dept have shut at midday thats why if I am repairing the car I make sure its in the week and I have the wifes car available to run back and forwards.

Well I emailed the guy that supplied the door & he replied saying to phone him, which I did.
He said he couldn't understand because the check strap is still on the car & isn't damaged. I said I'd send him a picture & he said not to bother, but could he have a word with "his lad" & call me back in 5 mins? Half an hour went by, so I called again & I was told he was busy with a customer. I left my number again & was told he'd call back in 15-20 mins. An hour went by & I called again to be told that this time he was out. Getting the runaround me-thinks!
So I'll keep calling until I get hold of him & keep badgering him for a refund before I threaten with negative feedback & then down the dispute channel!
