Front Bumper Cover
« on: 19 March 2007, 23:00:09 »

Now that the saga of my CPS has concluded, it's on to a new issue.

My dear daughter whom I summarily banned from driving my '99 Catera for life, messed around while she was parking (vertical parking that is), and hit up against the curb thus knocking out the right (passenger side) fog light (Remember here in the U.S., our steering wheel is on the left, hence the passenger side on the right.  The debate of which side is the "correct" side isn't an issue with me.)

When I was finally able to get up under the car, I saw where the fog light was mounted on the front bumper.  I was later to discover that it was the front bumper cover.  The way the brackets positioned, in order for me to reseat that fog light, I will have to replaced the entire front bumper cover.

With all that being said, does anyone out there know where I can get a front bumper cover at a decent price.  I checked with the body shop next to the dealership (as a recon task), and they said it would cost for the bumper cover, painting it, and installation about $832.40 USD!!!!!  Any help it MUCH appreciated.  Thanks.

Now that IS ridculous - pics would help us (or maybe specifically me) see what you're talking about exactly..

I'm having a little trouble posting pics I took this morning.  However, I was successful with posting on the Catera forum.  Please check the following link.

Here you go:

Got to be honest, I'm not sure - but as Mark says a breakers yard would probably be your best bet, if its plastic thats broken, what about some sort of plastic cement - seems a bit drastic to replace the whole thing and get it repainted.. :-/
