Where is the crank sensor plug hiding?
« on: 03 April 2007, 13:21:54 »

Just for future reference, is the plug for the crank sensor hiding somewhere under the scuttle? Can it be found without removing anything?
Just want to identify which type i have for future reference.

(V6) If its the original cable route it will be behind the Pass. cyl head, and difficult to reach with scuttle fitted.

It only takes 5mins to remove, and about 10m to put back on...

Mine hangs out of the end of the cable tray that goes over the nearside plugs and you can reach it without removing the scuttle. I don't know if it changed on later models though.

Even easier on 4 pots.....it plugs in just to the left of the cambelt cover  :y

Yes but the 6 pot gets it's own back when it comes to changing the sensor  ;D

Thats been re-routed when it was replaced at some point, cable probably runs down by the brake pipes on pass. side inner wing.

It hadn't been replaced before. Are you getting confused by my description of the cable tray? It's the tray that fastens to the side of the plenum on the passenger side. I routed my new sensor cable across to the ABS pump and down but the lead it plugs into comes out of the tray.

I see what you mean.... originally the loom end of the crank sensor exited the end of the cable tray and was clipped onto the engine lifting eye / coil support (varies with year) behind the pass. head. When replacing the sensor, the loom end can be brought out of the cable tray further forward and the sensor cable routed down the inner wing, away from the exhaust. This is a much better route for the cable, cooler and easier to replace in service but would have caused problems in production.

That's where the confusion is, I've got the remains of a broken clip there and the lead was just dangling out of the end of the cable tray.

Wondered what went on the clip  :)
