 :-?Hi all, can anybody tell me if they have ever removed the lens from a headlamp.It has push catches all round but also appears to be bonded on as well.? I ask this as an internal adjuster on the reflector has broken and i feel sure that it can be repaired if i can get the lens off.Gary. 8-)

i believe you need to use heat to release the bond.... something like a hair dryer. Can take a long time though....

I used a Stanley knife to gentley cut through the goo as I eased the lense off. Tunnies heat might help too.

I used a Stanley knife to gentley cut through the goo as I eased the lense off. Tunnies heat might help too.

Is the goo exposed on megga ones then? On my old Mondeo ones it was completely hidden and heat had to be used. Knife is prob better then!

Heat does not help.....you need to start at one end and slowly ease the plastic cove off whilst running a knife balde along the sealent.....takes about 10-15 mins....

Clean as much sealent off as you can once removed and re-seal with silicon when re-fitting.

Use a blunt tool like a few teaspoons to slowly prise the lens from the body, as the sealant stretches out into strings cut it with a stanley knife blade.
Once its apart you can glue the bits of adjuster back together but the plastic will be brittle so reinforce it with araldite.
When refitting the lens you will find that the old sealant grabs quite well but run a bead of silicone around the outside to stop water getting in and causing misting.
Only adjust using the allen key socket from the front, never try to turn the white knob.

I supposed it must be ...... Ive slept since I did the job a few months back   .... but I do remember that I cut it as I went along. I had the same problem as ffcgary1 in that the reflector was loose inside the headlamp due a broken mount. I used a soldering iron to 'weld' the 2 bits back together and then used some epoxy glue around the repair.
