Crank or Cam
« on: 09 May 2007, 16:46:27 »

Hello,

Can anybody help. I put my 3.0 omega on a computer and the fault read as engine speed sensor ( present RPM).

Is this the crank or cam sensor as vauxhall was unsure.

Cheers Damo

First of all....welcome to the forum.

Secondly, what are the fault symptoms...?

Thirdly, what was the code stored, you get a code 31 if the engine is not running....you get a code 19 if the crank sensor is goosed..

Plus, you an read the codes yourself, its very easy...

Hello,

Thankyou for the welcome.

As i am a newbie please forgive me, for being a bit thick.

Did get a code 31, engine was switched off.

Also got a code 129 Exhaust gas recirculation valve position sensor voltage low.

EML was coming on and off. Had codes checked and reset. Now the EML is always on.

Symptoms are sometimes car splutters and holds back.

Ah, the EGR sounds problematic then.

To rule out the 31, do it again with engine running...

What about blanking it off? Would that help?

Sounds like the old valve has stuck, and hence causing a problem electrically and flag ECU to say there is a fault.  Needs to be freed/replaced first before blanking.

Hope that makes sense?
