With the engine running the aux belt is spinning the air con pump, but at the very front of the pump (in front of the aux belt) it is turning very slow is this normal?? with the "Auto" button switched on and "LO" the speed never changes it still runs slowly....  Does this mean it is shafted??
As the air hasn't blown cold since having it, I was going to have it regased thinking this was the problem. Just thinking it maybe a waste of money if the pump is Naffed!!

If the system has no gas then the front section of the pump shouldn't turn at all alhough there may be a little clutch drag......

Sorry to sound thick here Mark, but to you does it sound asthough the pump isn't shafted?
so would you just go and get it regased?

Need to have sufficient gas in there before the pump will switch on...  ...so compressor may or may not be shafted.  A/C place should be able to test pressure, and regas (with a dye)

Right so that will be on the list too, as you don't hear anything different when you turn the AC on... i have read on here somewhere that the seals perish if AC not used enough so are these easy to fit or does the air-con guy need to do that?

Do the auxiliary fans run when the air con is enabled (not in ECO mode)?

I think whilst you could probably do the seals yourself, you'd need to replace the drier, vacuum out the system to get it totally dry, check for leaks and and re-gas afterwards, so given that you've ot to involve an expert anyway, there's probably little benefit in doing it yourself.

BTW: Kwik Fit do a re-gas for 44.95 with a no improvement no charge deal. It took some whingeing to get my money back when it made gu66er all difference but they have now sent me a cheque  . Could be a cheap way to find out if you have a bigger problem.

Sorry to jump in but I'm having a similar problem. The system has gas at the right pressure and the engine labours when set to auto-lo but no cold air, any ideas chaps. Just to add I bought a aircon gas can from halfords with a built in pressure gauge, followed all instructions and added a little gas to get needle to correct level. But I'm thinking the old gas probably needs binned and the pipes cleaned out, is this the correct thinking?

I think the first step with any system is to get the old refrigerant vacuumed out, the system checked for leaks and then the correct volumes of refrigerant and oil replaced. Without doing this you don't know what's in the system.

With that step complete, further diagnosis can be made if the cooling's not up to scratch based on the knowledge that the system is correctly charged.
