Seat stuck
« on: 03 June 2007, 08:06:10 »

Tried using the emergency winding thing on the electric front seat the other week to see if I could free it from sticking.  Basically, the driver's seat would go all the way back but only a couple of inches forward before its stopped.

Set to winding it manually with a torx head as I didn't have the proper key.  Its come forward a good further 2 inches and I removed the front 2 seat mount bolts in the hope that I could get to the back ones, take the whole seat out and fix it.

Its now stuck.  When I wind the motor by hand, its as if the spline and thread are clicking over each other (like when you overtighten a screw and it slips the thread).  It won't go backwards or forwards, just turns, gets tighter, clicks and then goes loose again.

So a bit of advice pretty please....The seat won't go backwards or forwards.  I have the 2 front mount bolts out and the seat now rocks on the rear mounts, so its not exactly secure.  Can I remove the seat base by undoing the 4 bolts on the underside of the seat, and unplug the connectors (batt disconnected of course to stop airbag issues) to gain access to the rear 2 bolts and remove, or should I get A N other to sit in the back seat and push with all their might while I try to manually wind it forwards again?

I'm concerned that I may have knackered the spline attached to the motor which is why its just turning, but I have to do something because the seat is no longer secured on the front and the seat runners are now covering the 2 front bolt mount holes so I can't get them back in.

I reckon if I could remove the seat base from the runners in situ, I'll have better access to the rear bolts to get it all out, but looking at the way the seat is constructed, everything is upside down as if the whole seat needs to be released from the mounts before any access is given to connectors, motors etc.

Any advice guys?

I nearly took the drivers seat outa my veccyC the other day for the same reason, it was stuck. no forward/backward movement. And no room under there to see what was going wrong.

Then i found out if I put it in the highest position it would go, there was plenty of room peering from the back of the seat to see the problem and fix it.

You may have already of tried this and is no help what so ever!  ::)

Yeah I tried that, even with the seat raised right the way up, there's not enough clearance to be able to get a torx head in there to release the other bolts.  Plus, the runners and motor are enclosed, so even peering down the holes i can squeeze my head near to, I can't see a thing.
