Secondary Air Injection system
« on: 16 June 2007, 10:43:38 »

Hi all.
'00 2.0 estate. The Sec Air Pump is running rough again and in the past I've squirted some three in one into the air filter which has rectified it. Now I'm a bit concerned in case I do some damage to the cat or oxygen sensor .
I have read here before that the system can be disconected as it was deleted in other later GM models so my question is what's involved ?
By unplugging the pump and blanking off the output side of the pump( input to EGR ) will I incurr any error codes and EML issues?

Cheers
Don

You can just unplug the pump electrical connection but you are relying on the non-return valve to be working properly (many arnt)

To fully remove the system, disconnect and remove the metal pipe that runs across the front of the timing belt cover and plug up the rubber connectors to the exhaust manifold pipes with short bits of 1/2" steel or some plumbers 15mm copper end caps.
The vacuum operated valve can also be removed but you must detach the electrical solenoid from the bracket and leave it connected to keep the ECU happy, just ty-rap the solenoid to the fan support and plug the vacuum pipe.

With the whole lot removed there is much more space around the front of the engine which has to be an advantage.
