windscreen and sunroof
« on: 19 June 2007, 23:12:07 »

Hey all, again, my windscreen has a crack in it, about the size of a 50p, apparently it passed last MOT like that, and is not in the swept area, but obv i don't want it getting any bigger and don't want to pay for new windscreen, is there any way of patching it up or fixing it somehow???? Also my sunrooof doesn't work, not a massive deal, but i don't actually know why, the lady just said that it didnt work, is there anything in the manuals etc about sunroofs? thanks everyone! xx

Marilyn -

First off - welcome aboard.

A chip of that size, will need attention, as varying temperature conditions could worsen it and break the screen.

I have PM'd you about insurance providers (as per your welcome thread)... but are you fully comprehensive? Many insurers have glass cover, with a very small excess.

You'll have to get it looked at, but if it's not major and not in the swept area of the drivers side wiper, it's unlikely to fail an MOT.

Interestingly, I still have a 1/2 inch crack in my Elite windscreen... right by the tax disk :(

Sunroof -

Can you hear the motor trying?

Under the steering wheel, there is a cover for the fuse area.

Pull out and check Check/replace fuse 25 - this is a 20 amp fuse,  and is for the sunroof.

Make sure you press and hold in the sunroof switch when trying to open it.

Last I spoke to Autogass, the said the largest crack they will repair is 'about 10p size'. Mine was smaller so they fixed it.

Before I called them I bought a DIY crack repair kit, but never used it because I got Autoglass to do this FOC for me (I have comp insurance).

If Autoglass won't fix your screen you can try the DIY one - but to be honest it seems like a very fiddly affair to me. Incidentally I am happy to part with my un-used DIY kit if anyone is interested in it.

I had auto glass replacement for £75 excess. Wasn't too happy as the stole my tax disc holder and put one of their own in its place. I had to get it changed again because none of the satellite equipment would work through it and there was an air leak.
