slipping clutch
« on: 18 July 2007, 09:25:28 »

:-? :-? Hi everyone, not been a member long but you've helped me a great deal already(Many thanks for that).
Noticed over the last couple of days that my clutch seems to be slipping slightly in second (only does it now and then) Only had the car a few months. its got 103K on the clock. The pedal has always been very high before it bites. is there an adjustment i can make or is it an expensive trip to the clutch man for a new one?. anyone have an idea how much a new clutch would cost (fitted) or adjusted.

Unfortunately mate they are not adjustable as they are hydraulic (uses the brake resivouir) so a trip down to the clutch man I'm afraid.

Eh.....you dont change the flywheel.....and all manual omegas used a dual mass version from about 96 onwards.

The parts are about a ton ish with approx 2-3 hours labour.

£900  :o :o :o

The quote I had from a Main Dealer to replace the clutch on a 3 litre manual was £480 all in (Rip off London prices £79 per hour labour). The local "Mr Clutch" was slightly cheaper.

Where the hell are they getting £900 from ????

The main dealer having looked at it were honest enough to say although the biting point was a little high there was nothing wrong with it, and if they replaced it they could not guarentee it would not be exactly the same.

I did my clutch last weekend (2.5TD) Only ever done FWD vauxhalls, the Omega was very easy. The hardest part was trying to get a peddle after bleeding it ::)

:) ;)Hello again, went to a place in leicester called triple S clutches to have the clutch checked. they said it was fine (must have been Me then) They gave me the first quote of £395 to £900.
The guy that stood there scratching his arse said the labour charge was so high because the exhaust and maybe the cross member would have to come off (needs the car for three days in all) Got the impression that they are a bit of a pig to do. Rang local dealer for another quote. They said could be upto a grand....What are they made of GOLD . Anyway the car seems fine for now but i think it will need doing soon. Anyone out there know any local garages around leicester that wont rip me off dont mind helping out (making tea and buying beer is about my limit) Could pay someone to do it on my drive) The Omega is a fantasic motor but these prices are a bit scary...

What side of Leicester are you?

I will ask 'man father' tomorrow to see if there are any good places.
