2.2 DTi - traction control?
« on: 01 October 2007, 12:12:08 »

Hi,

I posted last week about facelift Omegas. I've now found a car and put down a deposit. It's a 2.2 DTi Elite. I note that the 2.2 didn't have TC as standard - does anyone know why that was, when most of the petrol models had it?

Is this down to the low BHP? It seems a bit strange as the torque is quite good.

It's not a big problem as I've never needed TC on the TVR with quite a bit more power and a lot less weight, but I'm just intrigued why the diesel was specced differently.

Thanks all,

Graham

I would imagine it's down to ease of implementation. A petrol engine is easy to "throttle back" quickly by just skipping a few injection events but a diesel is less easy (then again, is the 2.2DTIi a common rail engine? not sure).

If anything the torque delivery characteristics of a diesel engine would make unintended loss of traction more likely.

It wasn't ALL petrol engines that had TC, just those with more cylinders than doors!!  ;)  ;)   :y

Ah, that's a good point - I hadn't thought of the implementation problems...  :y
