My dad has an omega elite and the temp gauge in the car some time doesnt move even when the car is hot and on the motorway some times it will go up and then down and keep doing so, am i right in thinking its either a dicky temp sender or a loose wire connection?, any help i  would be gratefull

Check the spade connector on the sensor, possibly clean it up a bit. Plenum needs to come off, right at back of V.

Also, before that, put your hand flat on the tacho, and give it a short, sharp jolt (not so much as to break the instruments!), as if the instrument panel isnt fully home on its connector you can get similar...
