Autobox Vent Pipe Maybe?
« on: 28 November 2007, 07:57:16 »

Hi Guys, have been having some autobox problems, it keeps going into neutral all on its own, after selecting 3rd or slowing down to idle it puts itself right with a big "CLONK". This happens at least 3 times in a 20 mile journey, very embarrasing. :'(

After getting my scrutts on and climbing under i found that the vent pipe about halfway down the autobox has perished away. Could this be the culprit and is it a concern?

Also found some oil on the switch type thing on the side of the box, could this also not be helping matters?

Am going to check the fluid level and have it changed when it eventually stops raining.

Any comments or suggestions greatly welcomed.
Cheers Carlos :y

Mechanical problem with the box. If the fluid change does not cure it, swap it for a know good box

I was told that if the oil wasnt changed for a long time, the filter clogs and gearbox works without proper oil pressure. Thats why clutches fail. I am currently looking for a automatic gearbox, but it's really hard to find a good one. Can you please advice any place where we can buy a gearbox for 2.0 16v or tell if we can use autobox from other engine?

Not sure about the filter theory.

AFAIK, all AR25s and AR35s should fit your car, but you may need to use your existing TC and bellhousing depending on the donor car.  Not sure if the gear ratios are different between AR25 and AR35

I did some digging the other day and read somewhere that 2nd and 3rd are different on the AR25. No numbers though.

And what about belhousing and TC? I can get an autobox from 2.5 to fit my 2.0. If the bellhousing and IC can be changed then the garage will do it, but if it's more than that, then I have to pay for work and for the gearbox wchich will not be fitted... i dont want to risk.
