Pleeease help ! or next step matches n petrol
« on: 29 November 2007, 16:08:14 »

Evening  guys, Had my mega since February and have had nothing but bl**dy trouble with it.

Latest prob :- temp 2 sensor had gone and heater wasn't working, so stripped off plenum and injector rails, replaced temp sensor (for ecu) replaced HBV and flushed out heater matrix put everything back together again and also replace plenum O rings EGR valve gasket and throttle body O rings, also cleaned throttle body, breather pipes with carb cleaner while it was off the car..

Now its all back together when i start up and leave it to run the revs go from just over 1000 revs to 2000
back to 1000 then to 2000 and so on..

took it for a run til at full temp and still doing the same, taken off all vac pipes and checked they wern't blocked, all ok, all wires and plugs are where they should be so can anyone shed some light on my problem before i treat it to a gallon of petrol and a match  :'(

Could be excess air into the plenum, either a leak or bad idle control valve. Try squirting some carb cleaner around the intake pipes, may show a leak.

Have you cleaned & lubricated the ICV?

Is the exhaust recirculating valve still functional or blanked off?

The ICV is on the passenger side of the plenum, you will have had to disturb it and its pipes to remove the plenum.

It provides what should be a controlled air supply bypassing the throttle butterflies.

Has it all gone back correctly?

Try removing and cleaning the Idle Control Valve.  Re-unplug ( ;)) the electrical connector, remove the hoseclip (dont drop it, can fall into the chassis leg and be lost forever.....) remove ICV from its plenum plug as well as the rubber holder, then squirt a good blast of carb cleaner in.  Cover both holes and give it a good shake for a few mins, then pour out the cleaner.  Repeat numerous times until your hear it rattling when you shake and the liquid comes out clear.  Oil with 2 or 3 drops (not a good stream of....) 3in one oil, not WD40.  reassemble and start.  Should now be OK.

If not, check for an air leak with a squirt of carb cleaner on the plenum plastic bits (the ecotech cover, ICV connection and similar) and listen for a rev change.  If revs change, you have an air leak.  Fix it, and all should be good.

right an  update....got in the car this morning and was running at just under 1000 revs on startup, after about 30 seconds went up to 1500 revs and stayed there, so i took off the ICV cleaned it with carb cleaner put all back together and still revs arnt righ and back to reving itself from 1500 to 2000 back to 1500 and so on....so im stumped i havent a ruddy clue whats wrong with it...and cant find an air leak anywhere. :(
