Just phoned a local MOT garage and he said the following:

As long as the car passes the emissions test then it doesnt matter wether cat(s) are present or not though in 99.9% of cases it wouldnt pass the emissions due to the engine being designed to run with a cat.

exactly, hence the "isnt cheap" bit LOL!

When Jetex were knocking these out at £350 ish it wasnt bad, but RRP is £500 delivered!!!
