25DT (1994 - 1996) - Very early 2.5 straight six BMW unit with no MAF sensor.
X25DT (late 1995 - 2000) - Slightly modified version of the above, has a slightly different head design and injectors plus an updated management system (uses MAF to prevent over fueling and excessive black smoke).
Y25DT (2002 on-wards) - A VERY rare beast which never seemed to make its way to the UK, basically the same lump as above but with a common rail injection setup plus the option of a 5 speed auto.
X20DTH (1998-2000) - Gm 4 pot diesel, around in the late 90's
X22DTH (1994-1998) - Never released.....
Y22DTH (2001 on-wards) - Later 2.2 GM diesel.

thanks for the info, my main dealer still cant tell the difference between the diesel engines types and keeps ordering the wrong parts :D :D

The Y30DT (2003.5-2006) and Z30DT (2006+) are an Isuzu derived V6 power plant which has about 170 bhp with a massive 370Nm of torque (manual version) which when it was upgraded to the Z30DT raised to 400Nm of torque!

The Y30DT and Z30DT have a timing belt and as normal on Isuzu units.....shimmed valve clearances! The inlet cams are driven by the belt and then a set of spur gears drive the exhaust cams. The water pump and oil pump etc are driven by spur gears off the crank......quite an unusual setup!

Be easier to fit the 3.0 BMW diesel

The trouble with fitting the 3.0 ltr BMW diesel is that you will have to fit so much gear with engine, engine wiring harness different from the 2.5 TD harness, plus the dash harness because you need the ignition barrel and keys. You might need the same with the vauxhall lump but being a V6 instead of a straight 6, the weight distrubition would be better as the V6 is not as long.
