V6 plenum - short/long.

What are the differences between V6 engines with a short or a long plenum?

Age !!

The older 2.5 are short plenums ... the newer 2.6, 3.0, 3.2 are long I believe .... I'm probably wrong and await correction    ;D

3.0 (until mid 97) and 2.5 are short plenum, 3.0 (mid 97 onwards), 2.6 and 3.2 are long plenum....

Does anyone actually know why the changed the length, or the benefits of the longer plenum?

In the case of the 2.6 it was probably to fit the DBW throttle body on!

In theory the volume depends on the engine capacity and torque curve but I doubt it makes a lot of difference in practical terms.

It appears that the shorter plenum is more suited to the smaller v6, and the larger plenum more suited to larger v6.  Design compromises mean that all 2.6 and 3.2 have longer plenums.

would there be a benifit to fit the vectra style inlet to a omega engine ? totaly different setup so was wondering if it would make a difference. ?

it would make a difference to power delivery, and would then lack the smooth torque curve of the Omega.

Vectra setup doesn't have a multiram, does it?

In that case, as TheBoy states, the torque curve will be nothing like as nice as you lose the ability to tune the intake tract to changing engine RPM. You'll end up with peaks and troughs all over the place. The omega had the luxury of plenty of space up front so they could go to town on the induction system. The vectra was a compromise due to shoe-horning the engine in.
