intermittant heater
« on: 14 December 2007, 08:53:34 »

this issue has been bugging me for some time now....and now it is cold it is bugging me even more....

Ocassionally my climate control will not blow hot air, the only way to get it to do so is to switch the engine off, let it cool down and restart.....and then it may not work.

It isn't everyday, sometimes i can go for weeks without it happening and then it will not blow hot air...

I have changed the HBV (well that was about 20K ago) the matrix was flushed a few weeks ago when the new antifreeze went it and i have tried a flaps reset.

Any ideas, i was so freezing this morning that i had the window open to warm me up!!!

It sounds like it could be a climate control sampling fan failing....

When it fails, are both heater matrix pipes hot?

If the sampling fan is not working then the temp sensor gets heated via the display illumination.....the result is no heat as the system thinks the cabin is already hot.....you might get some heat on Hi setting and thats it.

Have beeen reading this tread with interest,as posted problems with heating issues several weeks ago.The heater, when set to HI is hot but when you reduce down to 27/26 it gets cold very quickly, and dont think its just the body telling the brain you were hot now your not ???
Have done the tissue test on the center vent to see if sampler fan is running and tissue just falls away so assume fan is not working.Have blown through vent incase it was stuck but result is still the same.Is it possible to buy a new sampler fan or is it part of the console, also how can you test if it is working without the tissue test,as imagine cabin temperature control would be better if it worked as designed to .

yes, on face value it should be pumping out hot air......but it isn't.....

I have seen a few climate panels on Flea bay, might have a punt on one of those

Yes, it was me....

The problem is not the fan.....its the circuit board. The main fan drive electronics are on the circuit board and these fail. The result is a fan that runs slow and sometimes does not start.

I bought a 12V (9-15V) small fan (25mm x 10mm) from Maplins, removed the old fan, connected the new fan to the 12V that used to feed the old fan (outer two of the 4 pin connections get them the right way round though!), screwed the new fan to the rear plastic moulding and jobs a good un.....very slightly louder but, with the blower on or radio on or engine on you cant hear it.

DTM, i dont suppose you have the part number from maplins do you? Think mines gone too. And what needs removing to get to it etc. I've diagnosed it being the fan that at fault as per my qeustion on http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1198176711/0 but have no ide how to get all that fascia off without cracking it to pieces, where the fan is etc.

If the fan you bought was 25mm x 10, it must be a fairly big housing as the hole is only 3mm sq. Can i get to it via one of the center vents?

Cheers, Paddy. (now i have the AC re-gasd, it'd be nice to be able to use the climate control to its full extent)

i have found a way of 'tricking' the climate  ;D

heater on, switch to aircon and then switch the recirc button twice so it has an A in the circle.......

Once there is heat in the car switch back to econ  :y

When heater wont work try removeing vacum pipe from heater bypass valve for a second or two [while engine is running] . worked for me till i got it sorted.
