Hello all, I have been registered on here a few months and have pillaged the "how to's" which are fantastic and by far the best I have seen on any site. I am usually frequent astra-mk2.com for my track car.

The problem is that my car (2.5 v6 manual T reg) started to not move when in gear when pulling away from just rolling, for instance at a roundabout. The clutch release bearing has been noisy the whole time I have owned the car and had got much worse. So I assumed it was that sticking so took the gearbox off today and yes the bearing is goosed but I have the honour (or not) of having a dual mass flywheel. When I grabbed it to check it was tight the two halves would move by about 3-4 inches of play. Which to me seams far too much and possibly the cause of the original problem.

Is this too much play for the flywheel (I have never had a car with a dual mass before)

I don't know the answer to this question, but I'll be interested to hear it.

I have a 2.5 V6 manual, and when I changed my clutch, I noticed a fair bit of movement on the flywheel too....

if that was a mondeo/focus or new corsa/astra or vectra then in our workshop the flywheel would be replaced. peugeot 307 is the most common we come across up toŁ1000 parts and labour!!!

Apparantly a V6's dual mass fly wheel is the best part of Ł1000 on its own! Coppers get through 'em for fun - according to local dealer!

flywheel should only move about an inch and half when twisting the two halves against each other,  have known them to sound like a release bearing fault , despite repeated changing of release bearing the noise never improved tik the flywheel was changed!!
