2.5 v6 coolant bridge problem
« on: 08 January 2008, 17:46:26 »

hi everyone

i have a 2.5 v6 elite with a coolant prob, i have managed to trace the leek back to the coolant bridge at the back of the engine. if you are looking at the engine from the front of the car on the left hand side of it there is what looks to be a coolant temp sensor but the leak is comming from the right hand side of it from a hole that is the sive of a 20p peice, now is there supposed to be a core plug or somthing else.

Any help would be great

cheers :y

coolant bridge has the water inlet from hbv, the 2 channels to each head, an engine temp sensor and a temp sensor for the dash.

dont think it looks like the one in the pic from what i can see of it behind all the flipping pipoes and wires, but it my be the sensor with the side on connecter, what does this one do, and is this screwed into the bridge if so it may have been snapped off some how im not sure i bought the car cheap for £200 as a non runner. i will try and get a pic of it if i can get the camera in there.

thanks for the advise so far :y

The sensor at the top with the single wire is for the dashboard temperature gauge and the one on the rear with the two way connector is the temperature sensor for the engine management.

hello again i think that i have sussed the prob, after bending myself into the most back breaking position it looks as if the bolt to the right hand side of the bridge has sheard off, does this bolt have holes through it for water passage because what is left in there looks like the top of a castle nut but only about 4 turrets as tho the top has just snapped off, does this sound about right.

Yes, it's a banjo IIRC, so rather weak where the holes are drilled around the circumference. >:(

It sounds like you need to strip it down and try to extract the remains of the broken bolt from the cylinder head and then replace it with some new bolts and seals.

Look in the maintenance guide area at the breather cleaning guide....it will show you how to strip the plenum and injector assembly out so you can get at the coolant bridge.

The remains of the banjo bolt will just wind out, they dont tend to sieze in place.

Then re-fit with some new douty washers and jobs a good un.
