Big Probs help needed
« on: 30 January 2008, 22:35:48 »

Hiya folks
Need to pick some brains again.

Changed the oil cooler, thermostat, plug leads, DIS pack, rocker covers & gaskets at the weekend.
When I finished it on sunday night & fired it up it was ticking over really rough & nearly stalling, with loads of white smoke & strong petrol smell. but appeared fine at higher revs
When I asked on here, it was suspected air getting into the intake manifold.
I stripped it again today & rebuilt it twice, with no change. Can't see anything left unconnected or loose.
The car was started up a couple of times today to check everything. But the last time, it wouldn't start & the eml was on. haven't done a paperclip yet, but any ideas what i've done wrong??

Cleaned the icv with carb cleaner again, but read that the egr has to be done also. Is this with carb cleaner into the spring plunger also?

Also on the intake flange, when I removed the bolts there was blue silicone type stuff on the threads. Is this just a thread locking compound, or does it have to actually seal these bolts at the block??

Sorry for all the questions, but i'm scratching my head what I've done wrong

Did you fit the plug leads correctly to the DIS pack.....the numbering on one of the banks of teh DIS is not quite what you would expect!

I think the leads are ok, as the missfire is only at low revs, but I'll check them on saturday when I'm next at the car

The End of the story!!

Gonna post this so others don't get caught out.
Tried to trace the missfire on wednesday. Car still started OK but ticked over a bit lumpy. Until one time when I tried to start it, it wouldn't start & EML stayed on.

Today I checked the leads on the dis & I had 4 & 6 the wrong way round :'( :'( >:( >:(
Changed them back, did the paperclip & got 1 9 back - Crank sensor. Changed the crank sensor & its fired up fine again :) ;D :)

On another note, I changed the thermostat as well last weekend & its running with rad flush/water in it at the mo. But the temp gauge is only reaching 70-80 degrees now instead of the 90-100 it used to. Is this normal. heater is blowing hot air fine.
Also cos the car has sat for a week or 2, my pass side headlight comes out, sprays ok but won't retract, has it just came off its runner??
