brake pedal / light switch
« on: 05 March 2008, 00:19:03 »

I've just noticed that on my Auto omega I have to depress the brake pedal about half an inch before I here a plasticky "click" in the dash at which point the the brake lights come on. The light don't come on until the pedal has gone down that far.

Is this normal?

Incidentally I had a Pug once that had a problem where the brake light switch had moved in its housing and the brake lights were always on; it was a fiddly, but straight-forward fix to reposition the switch. I'm guessing I have a similar problem here.

Any ideas?

I suspect the plasticy click might be from the gear shift area?

If it is then this is the park lock solenoid.

The actual brake switch plunger should self adjust when installed so the switch position is at the optimum so its worth having a quick look at it .

Isn't the click noise the point where you can disengage 'P'; a safety feature designed to keep the auto in park unless the brake pedal is depressed?

Exactly the same thing on mine, think it's normal...

Actually, when I fitted the CID, I noticed Albatros' park lock solenoid is a noisy little bugger.  Nothing to worry about though :)

It's so good knowing that a Jedi Master has actually seen the "Miggenium Falcon" 1st hand.
