Dual fuel - problem switching to LPG
« on: 10 March 2008, 11:33:41 »

First post. I need info. on dual fuel LPG system (Vauxhall factory fitted). X20XEV engine X reg. Runs ok on petrol poor on gas. I have been told that a changeover pipe gets blocked, has anyone had experience of this? Fault codes re all 4 petrol injectors when system is switched from petrol to gas, is that normal?
Thanks

Due to the low number of these sold, i'd guess it risky to trust an inexperianced Vx dealer to sort it. A local LPG conversion centre may be better equipt to diagnose the problem. Go for a reccommended centre though, it would be in their interest to condem and supply a whole new kit.

From personal experience, I would check the following

1) Plugs - lpg is very susceptable to poor spark.

2) The evaporators can get clogged on the gas side.

3) All vac pipes

I assume the evaporator is getting nice and hot?

No local LPG conversion centres! Don't trust the local Vauxhall Dealers! New plugs & leads fitted. Can anyone tell me where I find the Evaporator as I can find no documentation on the gas system?

I wouldnt go ripping it out just yet, but if you want to check its getting lovely and hot.....have a look in the area under the coolant bottle.......it'll be a circular object, with 2 lpg pipes and 2 water pipes attached.

Not all Vx dealers will look at dual fuel jobs, they havent got the kit, so your local one might not look at it anyway.

You want to phone up a company called Millbrook...

http://www.millbrookconversions.co.uk/

They do the conversions for vx.........ask them where your nearest Millbrook trained vx dealer is (some vx dealers will look at dual fuels but arent Millbrook trained)

My nearest one is in Bath........and tbh they are pretty good.

Diagnosed an evapourator problem on one of my vectra dual fuels correctly (low gas pressure and wouldnt adjust, pressure to rail is done at the evapourator) and iirc were about £200 cheaper to change it than the chippenham vx dealer (not millbrook trained but have the kit to look at dual fuels)

Probably a year later on same veccy I had a vac leak which caused it to keep switching to petrol.......i found the vac leak but after my repair it wouldnt run on lpg fullstop......took it to bath vx dealer again.....they were honest enough to say they just reset the lpg ecu and it was fine after that  :y I was told by dealer that the lpg ecu on dual fuels are self adaptive.....ie they compensate and adjust themselves, so the vac leak i had, the ecu had compensated for it.......to such an extent that when I fixed the leak......its parameters were so far out it wouldnt run on lpg anymore.

Blokey on service desk even apologised for having to charge me £35 for reseting the lpg ecu  ;D :y
