« on: 12 March 2008, 20:37:45 »

hey guys, been havin a few probs lately with flucuating revs and stalling in my omega, i've came to the conclusion it could be the breathers that need cleaned.

1st of all would you all agree?

2nd how tricky is it? ive never touched anything inside an engine before, or how much to take it to garage n get done?

This maintenance guide should be of some help; I'm going to use it to do mine at the weekend (weather permitting!).

We'll have to compare notes!

No.

Its all straight forward, its worth getting the gasket for the throttle body.

Also the thin black pipe pictures gets blocked easily, if its never been cleaned, this could be blocked.

Was on my dads dealer serviced 2.2, instead of spending hours cleaning that pipe, just buy a new one, only a couple of quid from Vaux.

The pipe i mean is fairly small, runs from the back of the throttle body... around and goes in the side of the eco strip on the left hand side, with a clip on it.

Black pipe, right hand side....

That easily gets blocked, less than £3 to replace!  :)

Clean it all properly... well worth doing annually.

A couple of cans of carb cleaner will do most of the work for you... I used paint stripper on the throttle body as it was all quite hard. I did a V6 for the first time in an afternoon without busting a gut ... I was probably taking too much care not to drop any bits inside other bits !!

9nm is just 'nipped' up, its not very tight at-all.

Carb Cleaner will do it, halfords stuff is good, although £5 a can.

On trade its much cheaper around £2.60.

Clean it all, not just that pipe.

YES ... and overtightening is just, if not more dangerous .... undertighten and things work loose, overtighten and you either crack/break the things you are bolting together, or you stretch and weaken the bolts so they break.

A decent torque wrench is only about £60 - Halfords do an 8-60 Nm - although I prefer to have two, a low range 4 - 30 and a "normal" 25 - 150 Nm

If you want  it done right remove the TB and clean it.

I did the cheap way, not doing the TB, after i had done it, made a considerable difference to performance!
