PARTS info required - Cambelt kit and shocks
« on: 17 March 2008, 10:50:33 »

What is in a full cambelt kit that i'll need for my 80k change?

Is a gates kit good enough?

How much should i expect to pay?

Does my elite really need to have self levelling rear shocks or can i use ordinary ones to save a bit of cash?

Does it cause any problems not having the sensors connected if I use ordinary shocks?

and again, how much should these cost too? (replacing both rear dampers)

thanks in advance :y

Cambelt kit - not sure...

Shocks...

Self leveling shocks help the HID aim, so would be advised to fit self levelers still...

Shocks P/N & Pricing...

None-self leveling - P/N 90542942 - £73.00 (Retail) - £45.85 (TC)
Self leveling - P/N 72119084 - £103.00 (Retail) - £64.88 (TC)

The Gates kit is good IME, with the bonus that you get markings on the belt - unlike the main dealer kits. Price is around 100 quid inc VAT for the kit from the likes of Autovaux. (bought some SKF kits from them recently which had gates belts and they were good).

You should end up with the belt, a plate containing 2 pulleys and a separate pulley and spacer, together with nuts and bolts. Quote the engine number when you order as they do vary.

I would have thought that if you replace the self levelling shocks with standard you should also disconnect power from the system (remove the fuse, as I think it has its' own fuse) to stop the pump running continuously trying to pump it up.

No they don't! 2 completely seperate systems. But I agree in that I'd refit self levellers - unlike the person who owned my car before me. :(

No. It's the same kit regardless of capacity.

Paid just under a ton for mine (Genuine VX) with a trade card and even though it didnt have any markings on it, its a simple procedure to fit. Pm Me if you need instructions on fitting if you get a belt without markings mate.
