Greasy situation.........
« on: 21 March 2008, 20:28:09 »

Hello all,

I have just purchased a 51 plate 3.2 v6 omega estate and was hoping to give it a oil/filter/plug service today, However I cant seem to locate were the oil filter goes!!

I purchased one off vauxhall and it appears to be a bare paper/plastic type rather than the more usual "metal can". I have replaced similar looking types on a merc that i had, but I cant find the housing where these types usually go.......

A rather basic question i know but any help would be appreciated.

right hand side (looking from front), back, right near bottom.  Look from behind passenger front wheel, you'll see the canister.

Whatever else you do, don't overtighten the canister on refitting.

Hi,
You will need a 24mm ring spanner on the hex at the end of the filter housing to undo the filter housing. There is a 3/8" square in the end also, but if it is tight you may crack the casing if you use this.

As said, don't over tighten, should only be tightened to 10 Nm.

Filter part no is 9192426  Make sure they didn't give you 9192425 by mistake. Has happened to me twice.
There are 4 lugs on the end of the filter, these fit into the end of the filter case to hold the filter in place when you refit the housing.

If you have a sump drain plug with female torx and rubber "O" ring seal, don't over tighten this either. Should only be 10 Nm

This model has Coil per plug (CPP) DSS units fitted in the camshaft covers of each cylinder bank over the spark plugs.

When you come to ease them out, take great care. You may find oil in the plug wells, (which will need new camshaft cover seals to cure, maybe at a later date) and if there is, you may find the plug insulator shrouds are stuck to the insulator nose of the CPP unit and also the plug insulator and also the sides of the plug wells. If so, ease the shrouds off the CPP unit first, then when you have this out of the way, with a small screwdriver ease around between the shroud and the plug insulator and well sides to loosen them before you try pulling them out.

A smear of silicone grease around the shrouds when you put them back will help for when you have to remove them again.

If you just pull them they may tear. They are only neoprene rubber and they get weak with age and the heat and oil.
The shrouds are NOT a service replaceble item from Vx and only come complete with CPP unit at £100+ each unit !!!!

If you do tear one, they can be degreased and stuck together with the black goo used for sealing the camshaft covers, but it needs 24hrs to set. Part no 90485251

Plugs should be tightened to 25 Nm only. Use a smear of anti sieze on threads when you put them in.

HTH
