Creaking - not old age!
« on: 11 April 2008, 20:52:00 »

Last month I noticed creaking from the rear of the car and when it failed it's MOT with 2 broken coil springs I though ooohhh that's why. :)

But no. :(

It's still creaking - any ideas? :-/

nackered shocks?

That's what I thought initially as MarksDTM noiced they were leaking last year at Keswick when fully extended - but MOT man say's they're fine and bounce is good.

I think I'll have to get round to buying a set and bring them along in June if it doesn't drive me mad before then.

Or could it be my exhaust perhaps - cos the middle joint is on it's way out? Mmmm

Wouldnt have thought knackered shocks would cause creaking.......be a bit bouncy perhaps...but your mot man says bounce ok.

Is your exhaust blowing from the centre join? ie where nearside pipe joins the offside pipe or further up (tho estate maybe diff to saloon)

He said it was the centre join where it meets the backbox.  Never noticed it blowing before but just been underneath and I can block the tail pipe with my hand with no pressure and it sounds like it's coming from the corroded joint he mentioned.  :(

Rear subframe bushes.  Mine also was creaking from the back end and when i'd looked at the bushes they were both on their way out although the drivers side was particularly bad.

Replaced both of them and the creaking has gone.
