Cam belt changte...
« on: 10 April 2008, 22:00:21 »

Hi all,

I started my cam belt change today. Fitted the new belt as per the DVD (using the locking kit) with the white lines correctly matching.

I was at the 2nd iteration (TDC) and had to very slightly advance the upper idle tensioner to correct  the timing at (1-2). While I was advancing with the 30mm spanner, tthe upper idle tensioner became loose. I guess I didn't tighten the middle black torx screw enough to hold the tension.

How do i proceed from here?

(A) Do I tighten the upper idle to 40NM with (1-2) matching the timing  kit marks and then re-do the tensioner. and continue as per the DVD.

(B) Do Above (A) then start all over again with loosening both idlers and re-setting the upper idle to 12 O'clock and the lower idle to 3 O'clock and and continue as per the DVD.

Seeking your expert guidance...

As long as nothing has slipped a tooth you don't need to restart it. Adjust the idler mounting bolt so there's just a little resistance to turning, adjust with the 30mm spanner until cams 1 and 2 are aligned, then nip up the mounting bolt while holding it in place with the spanner.

As long as all 4 cams come back to align with the marks after removing the locking tools and turning the crank over 2 turns it's fine.

Then, double check that you've torqued the mounting bolts for all both idlers and the tensioner is correctly set and tightened and you're away.

Many thanks and appreciate all the valuable feedback.

I have completed both the oil cooler and the Cam belt change successfully   :)

Went for a short drive and the ride was "Silky smooth"

The engine is so quite and is Hummmmmmmmmmming like a brand new car.  :)

Cheers.
