tHERMOSTAT

wHERE IS THERMOSTAT LOCATED IN ENGINE. wILL BE RCVING MY CRANK SENSOR SOON AND WILL WANT TO TAKE THE THERMOSTAT OUT OF SYSTEM.

Caps lock is on the left .. :)

Thermostat on the V6 is in the VEE of the engine, under the plenum and inlet manifold. It is tricky to remove due to one bolt being difficult to remove.

There is a guide in the maintenance section

He's in Liberia (Africa) .. I believe its pretty stanadard to take the 'stats out as a precaution .. :)

He's in Liberia (Africa) .. I believe its pretty stanadard to take the 'stats out as a precaution .. :)


And it will do break all........because its radiator size that dictates engine cooling not the thermostat.

All the stat does is ensure that the engine gets to optimum operating temp quick and remains there......once the engine is warm the stat will be opan and circultaing water through the radiator.

I totally and wholeheartedly agree .. :) .. but when/if you ever see what they do to some cars in Africa you would understand ... I think the idea of "engineering" is sometimes "lets play and see what happens" followed by "We've always done it that way" ... :)

You much correct though i sometimes do not agree. You see i am not a mechanic. When i developed the overheating problem. The fisrt questions asked was did you take out the thermostat?

Now that i know it really does not matter i will leave it.

Then i believe the loss of coolant was from a leaky HBV. :(

Thermostats can fail closed, then you would get serous overheating, that happened on my old 12v Senator and it got so hot it almost seized, but all the others I've had have failed open which is not so big deal, if it not overheating then I would leave it, it’s a lot of work for nothing
