front camber
« on: 10 May 2008, 12:18:39 »

i was into my local tyre center (n ireland) to see about my front camber as it is eating front tyres in about 5K and as usual he says no adjustment in the omega ::) but as you all no it is very adjustable so after a long conversation on the subject he has agreed to sort it out be only to the "GREEN" which is no good but after another long conversation he has agreed to set the camber to what ever i want it to be set to my question is if i set the camber to about -1,10-20 would this seem about right as i have read somewhere on this site that this is about right , my car has 50,000K on it and is a mv6 if this is any help thanks for any help in advance

if he's stupid enough to try to tell you it cant be adjusted, do NOT let him try to do it, and definately not just "into the green"

take it to a wheel alignment specialist (worth the travel if there's not one that close to you) and have it done properly on all 4 wheels, and to get it accurately done they need to adjust the back to perfection first to then get the front ones correctly aligned

could be pricey coming from ireland, and although WIM are very reputable, I managed to find a local place to do mine since i'm a hell of a drive away :y

WIM actually recommended a place in Oldham for us northerners so he may know of somewhere in ireland too...?

ok thanks for the replys but in n ireland alignment centres don,t exist as far as i know but the place that i will be using has a very expensive modern machine and i have already told them that if only setting to within the "green" that i will not be letting them near it that is why i need the front camber setting to get them to set it to , does -1 10-20 seem about right?

ref
yr Camber to do a rough check get the car on level ground then using a plumb bob to a point somewhere on yr front wheel drop it down then using  a ruler  measure the top of the rim and then the bottom the  then yu  can check the difference if its 16 wheel the  difference should be 10 mm that equates to -1 wich is smack in the middle of tolerance if it greater than this if you are chewing up tyres on the inner and the wishbones in good condition it needs to be adjusted

mine are cock on no pulling and runs as straight as a die

Yes - 1 degree 10' to -1 degree 15' falls into the safe zone. All other angles use the OEM suggestions.

Be sure to have a full fuel tank on the day so the suspension is preloaded.
