strange noise
« on: 18 May 2008, 02:19:52 »

driving along today i noticed a strange noise sort of like a whirring coming from engine accompanied with a low pitched whistling sound,
i had a look when i got home and found chunks of the sepentine belt missing , any ideas?
im thinking its an ancillary item rather than engine as i have no eml and car is driving properly

Sounds like your aux drive belt is failing possibly due to a siezed tensioner pulley - which is common.
On the 2.5 the tensioner pulley is top left pulley facing the engine standing in front of the car.
Be careful driving the car in this condition since the pulley ususlly is locked and plastic bits will melt off possibly tearing the belt if you continue to operate the engine.

There is a previous thread somewhere for detailed checks on this problem :y

You need to check the belt path and see if there is a siezed pulley for the alternator, tensioner, A/C
