Strange request - 2.5 manual V6 minfacelift owners
« on: 31 May 2008, 01:05:55 »

Hi all

Just trying to get to the bottom of my weird rumble.
Can anyone that fancies it next time your in your manual 2.5 v6 circa 1998 build the revs up real slow from idle and tell me if you can hear any vibrations at any particular revs? (car stationary)

Or anyone that might know better tell me that I shouldn't have any!

I get vibrations at 900, 1250 and 2000 rpm. 900 probably being the most noticeable.

Just wondering if this is normal or if it might be contributing to my mystery rumbling

Could one of your spark plugs have a weaker spark then the rest ? thus unbalencing the engine?

Not sure this would unbalance the engine Thomas, she's firing fine. It's more of a mechanical inbalance

Thomas! That is blasphemy!

I find these V6's particularly solid provided you follow a few basic ground rules. I think my woes (if founded) may be eminating from my flywheel or gearbox if anything  :y

Phil.

Is yours manuel or auto.

If manual could it be the blutch release bearing.  if manual, try with clutch engead/disengaged in neutral.  My theory is it may be a bearing rumbling at certain speeds/frequency.

Just a thought.

Seems to be present with clutch engaged or disengaged. Is my flywheel knackered?
Or am I being a hypochondriac?

Still sounds like clutch driven plate to me. Just like mine was.

Really you're going to need to get the gearbox off and have a look.

I don't wanna!!  :(

Yeh I guess it will have to come off for a look. It will have to wait for the mo though. I just noticed the centre bearing bush is saggy so /i need to change that too. Guessing that won't be causing it though
