i blanked mine off recently, with no ill effects.some people say it will give a small improvement to performance.if you want to do it just use an old coke can or similar as a gasket but just make the holes for the bolts to go through and leave the others blank  :y

It's part of the emission control system.

The later cars do not have it, that should give an idea of how useful it is.

Blanking it off can improve the idle quality, but do not disconnect the cable.

The later cars do not have it because they are a lwoer compression ratio

And it should do nothing for the idle becasue it should be closed at idle  :y

What it does is allow the ECU to let some inert exhaust (no fuel or oxygen content) gases back into the inlet to effectively reduce the fuel air mix in the cylinders and hence reduce the cylinder temps which in turn reduces NOx levels in the exhaust.

It should be fully closed at idle and full throttle and may be open varying ammounts in between.

Generally, when cruising at constant speed, its open pretty wide so you can feel better throttle response by blanking it off because it now no longer has to shut.
