Posted ages ago on here about losing water like a litre every 150/200 miles,  from my Elite 3.0 v6 did a few tests like put lots of kitchen roll /paper at rear of engine by HBV  area to see if got wetted not a drop after like an hours journey, changed coolant header tank cap, it still lost coolant anyway switched to 2.0 CD for winter & left it the old elite in driveway, well come the good weather its back on the road, Caravan towing ! I did turn engine over occasionally through winter months  & its starts ok now, but I can tell its used some water already and only done 60 miles or so .
Soooo if its the worst & it needs the Head Gaskets doing, what sort of money are we talking & does anyone know of a garage that actually knows how to do it in West Yorks area ?
Obviously main dealers are out of the question.

Far more likely to be a water leak...do you have an mayo on the dipstick, smoke from the exhaust or anything like that?

I had a lost of coolant problem on my 2.5 V6 it took a long time to track down.
I lost about a litre every 100 miles
It turned out to be the shaft seal on the water pump letting water by when hot.
Changed the pump and have had no problem since.

CBH now that does sound interesting will look into that ,did you do it yourself (is it easy or is it garage job special tools etc)
As the car runs brill not a misfire at all so you may have something there,

If it was the water pump seal would you not see water somewhere?

If you have a leak that you say is not your HBV, and you can't see any leaks anywhere I would go with somewhere in the "V" of the engine... The engine gets hot then the water evaporates leaving no trace of water for you to see....

I would be looking for anyone of these

Oil Cooler Plate
Coolant Bridge
Thermostat Housing

If it is the water pump I would recomend getting a copy of the V6 cambelt DVD from the shop.

Watch it completely, but just observe all the info required regarding the water pump change without going as far as doing the timing belt and tensioner change.

Its more likely to be a leak. Try to locate.  I made a cap with a schrieder valve in so I could pressurize coolant with all the plenum etc off.

Thanks for the input guys will have a good look in the V  "Loo-knee" as there isnt a trace of water anywhere else, i do have gundgy looking mess under front grill across the lower body frame when you look straight down but figure thats oil drips etc as car does point down drive most of day & its pretty steep, just the odd drip on tarmac but not much ...

I tried all the things listed by Loo-Knee and even changed the HBV.
I found the leak when I noticed a small amount of water on  the Aux drive belt after I had the engine running for a long time.

When I took the water pump off the only thing to show was the small hole in the casting was missing it's blanking plug.

I assume such a small amount of water was released at any one time it evaporated on the hot engine.

The good news is I have now done about 2500 miles and NO water loss
