Omega X30XE Problems!
« on: 16 June 2008, 18:50:34 »

To cut a long story short, I had a problem with the fuel gauge on the car, so I removed the dash to check the connections etc... Anyway that seems to be sorted now :)

Down side... When I got the dash removed, I noticed that someone had soldered a wire across the connectors on the back! I decided to look into the problem... and a few mins later I found out what was going on... >:(

The engine light was wired up with the battery light, so it looks like the lights are all working correctly, when the ECU light is just a mirror of the battery light!  :(

I put it back how it should be, unsoldering the bodge wire, and resoldering the connection back to the ecu, and pushed it back into the dash.

I was expecting the engine light to stay on... which it did, BUT its flickering! Any ideas why? :-/

Did a paperclip test, and it came back with:

133 Intake Manifold Valve 2 Voltage Low
74 Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage High

What do I do next!

I happen to have a spare MAF so I will try that and post back, any clues on the other probs?

Flickering? Hmmm.

As you have spare MAF, just try that, but I'm thinking more a lamda issue. I would look at live data reading if you have facility to try to work out whats happening.

Right.. spare maf idea... thats a non starter - has the wrong plug on it GRR!!! (found out after i bolted it all in place too! DUUURR!)

Just quickly checked that the solenoid valves are plugged in (which they are) however, they dont seem to work. I thought if you rev it hard the valves should flip over? Neither of them move at all! They do on the Vectra GSi which I have, and I thought it would be the same on the Mig?

As for live data readings, what needs to be read? I have a multimeter here, and ive got some oscilliscopes too, so dont mind having a fiddle! I am guessing that I should check the lamda output that its flicking back and forth?

It still seems to perform fine, however it does missfire if you quick give it WOT from idle... I put this down to oil in the spark plug holes?

The flickering EML is odd... Its on constant (like it should be) untill you start it, then it flickers (hard to descirbe, its asif it has a duty cycle of like 80% flickering maybe every 1/10 of a second? will get a video of it later!)

Just had a go at filming one in the dark, however it doesn't show it flickering so I will try again tomorrow!

Had a quick check this afternoon, and i was deffo between 13.9 - 14.0 at idle, never tired it at 2.5k though. EML looks like some scooters / bikes when there sat at traffic lights at night with there lights on, and they are flickering a bit. Odd thing is the flicker rate is not RPM related!  And it doesn't go away when revved.

Will have a look at that tomorrow too!

I had a flickering ECU light.

I had two codes - 59 and 73.   Code 73 was down to an air leak, and I thought the flickering ecu light was dependant on rpm.

Once air leak was fixed, the ecu still flickered.  Code 59 was down to frayed wiring.  once fixed, ecu light went out.
