ok after some slightly exuberant playtime in a field in wales [smiley=wink.gif]
i now have no power steering have checked all fuses for a short but all ok have a replacement pump coming hopefully that will be the fix.

i also have a missfire
have procured new plugs and Ht leads but are not sure what "boot size" they should be ie at the dis pack end
all parts had 2 types and only one in stock (shock horror) my choices were 30mm or 15mm as the dis is a bastrd to get at wont be able to pull it all part till sat to find out and would prefer to have the right set availible to finish that job
dis pack was replaced by a vx dealer for far to much bloody money and is practically brand spanking
anybody know which "boot size" for a T plate 2.5 cdx estate?

and addendum where is the mythical power steering speed sensor hidden? cant find it in the haynes manual

Difficult to beleave that the pump has totally failed, they normally just get lazy at idle. You are totally user that the F14 cabin bay fuse is ok?

As for the miss fire, do check the plug wells for oil and the pipe work for air leaks etc.

Spark plug boot size, well its NEVER changed on the V6, they ahve always been the same size!. The boot dimension you talk of, is that outer diameter (larger size seems a bit big), inner diameter (would be the smaller one) or length?

The mythical power steering speed sensor does not exist, far more common sense was used then simply adding an extra sensor!. The speed signal comes from the ABS ECU.....which in turn comes from the rear ABS sensors in the same way as the MID and speedo signal do as well.

yep the fuse is sweet pulled em all one at a time just to make sure...
as for the pump yeah if i rev the nuts off it she turns ok but that aint much fun in a crowded tesco carpark specially with the missfire (makes me think of zimbabwe for some reason) also when she does turn it makes a hell of a grinding noise (think band saw through tin) and there is no "flow" in the resevoir when revved also i am fairly sure the fluid aint supposed to be sparkly pretty yes but not exactly correct

i followed the OOF instructions about 3 month back and replaced both rocker cover seals (I know I know they are cam covers but i grew up with holdens man!)
going to replace plugs and leads tommorow and have a general pull it all apart and have a look day tommorow (christ i hope i dont end up with any bits left over.... AGAIN!)
will send sit rep when done or when i come across another prob and will be smudging grease and oil all over me keyboard and fingerprints on the screen! ;D

If the PAS is just poor at idle, normally lazy pump. Only option is to replace.
