ecu not talking car immobilised

Please does any one know if the Ecu is not communicating with the key programmer, there could be another reason before I buy a new Ecu. My car has been stood now for three weeks, its costing me loads. I lost the chip from my key three months ago so I got a guy to come out and reprogramme my car and it worked fine for a few months. When it would not go  again,  :'(I got him back out and he said the Ecu was not communicating. I then ordered a new key from Vauxhall and had my car towed to them. After 2 hours they said they could not diagnose the problem and would I like them to carry on, I said no as I thought if they don't know after spending 2 hours on my car, I would find someone else. aaaaaaaaarrhhhhhhhh Has anyone had a problem like this..

no idea myself but those that do will probably ask you to fill in your profile and give some more details about your car, re engine size type and year. Theyll be along do doubt. Welcome to the forum, by the way. No other issues with the car?

No apart from it won't go. The car looks great  used to drive great, not had a problem until this.

is that a facelift(b) model or the original (a)shape? They bought out the newer model about 99 ish ,so bit of a cross over, they  have differant ecu's. Just doing the ground work for the know alls. Bit late now so, maybe save your answer til tom. to bump it to the top incase you dont hear anything, try to keep it on the first page. A phew ladies on here so dont be shy. Good luck with it. :)

Hmmm....sounds like some poor diag here.

Have the agarge tried programming a new transponder to the car or are they just trying to pair the currently questionable one that the lock smith fitted?

When the fault occurs what doe the ecu light do, does it flash?

What are the stored fault codes in the engine ecu (these can be read using a paper clip)

paper clip test is covered on page1 of maintenance guide section. Easy diy, the port is under the cover under the steering wheel.

Ps
Presumably no spare key, hence lock smith key?

Both Omegas are Omega B. The later car is the facelift. Omega A's are what we badged up as a Vauxhall Carlton.

 :-[yeah, just read similar in general chat on the family tree thread. Sure i have heard vx parts guys asking A or B in relation to face lift and pre facelift?!?!

What would the parts dept know about spares?  ::)  ;) The facelift is often refered to as Omega C  :y

Thanks for all the replies, I bought a new key fob from vauxhall and I have the original car pass. Vauxhall said they were getting nothing from the Ecu so could not reprogramme. They could not tell me though, what was wrong or what to buy or do.  I had the car towed back home again. Square one after paying out to them for well, nothing really. I have found a mechanic through a friend who has all the diagn, needed who will take the car next week. I will ask him to do the paper clip test. Does anyone have a guess at what the problem can be?  ::) The ecu light flashes when the key is in ignition.

the most common reason for not starting etc; is probably code 19-crank sensor. this would not be related to your key issues though.you could do the paperclip test yourself it only takes 5 minutes. you could then post the results and probably get some quick answers. :y

would say worth a go. Paperclip test dead easy. Follow the guide and post number no. flashes on here. If it does not work at all then maybe would be a clue as to state of ecu and if it gives fault codes then even better. Fact that its flashing,  anybody?
You got just a fob from vx? or the whole key cut and programed ready to go? Did it work at any stage?

Around and towards the end of the ignition barrel is immobiliser pickup and ecu.  remove cowling to see it.  Check connections to it.
