alternator high voltage
« on: 05 July 2008, 14:22:07 »

Is it dangerous to run the car with the alternator producing high  voltage, between about 13 and 16 Volts. It has blown the battery light  on the dash. What could be next?
Thanks

sorry lyn did not get back to you been in bed getting a few hours before n/s.  i would not drive the car until u sort it, as said in previous post u can well cook your battery and possibly other electrical components within the car, then things could become extremely expensive.  use the alternator repair guide and get that sorted first.

good luck

A "good" alternator will put out about 14.4V.

If your voltage regulator is gone, volts will rise with revs. My mates VFR put out 22V! The battery got boiled dry. (Didn't explode luckily).

But extremely rare on a car alternator.
