Hesitation / Glitch
« on: 11 July 2008, 21:03:58 »

My recently aquired 2.6 seems to have a slight glitch at just above idle. About 1500-1800rpm.

When the engine goes through this rev band the car seems to dip slightly, as though there is a hesitation. It is most noticeable when you change from 1st to 2nd gear, and sometimes it will stutter slightly and then pick up again.

Could this be fuel metering problem?

Or Could it be the spark plugs they have not been changed for a long time according to records?

Any help welcome
Thankyou :-? :-?

your profile says 2.5 but your talking about a 2.6 in your post, can you clarify engine size and year? A number of things could cause, some dep. on you engine type, some on accross the range issues like oil in plug wells maybe, some beyond my experience no doubt. Let us know, someone will sort you out i am sure. Ttfn.

Could be a number of reasons.  Multi-rams possibly?

try peddle trick, for ecu fault codes, foot on brake, gas peddle to the floor. Turn on ignition fully without firing the engine. Yellow car symbol should flash out codes. 10 is zero, 3 or 4 sets of flashes pause and so on. Post results. If not maybe a tech 2  diagnostic.
Strange that its in such an accurate position in the rev range tho, try that for starters. Hope helps.

Multirams are at the front and rear of the engine, they are valves that open at certain revs to allow air into the engine, most noticable being a surge at 4500 revs.  There are photos in the how2 sections.

Not as easy to test on your drive by wire 2.6 as on your 2.5 as you have no throttle cable.

Get someone to stamp on the accelerator while you watch in the engine bay, you can see the actuator rods move.

Practise on your 2.5 1st as you can do it all from the engine bay.

Good luck  :y
