Breaking Wheel Wobble at 50mph +
« on: 16 August 2008, 17:38:01 »

I've had a few warped discs in my time. (All Vauxhalls!) but there is no alternating back pressure from the brake pedal with this one. I have a MV6 auto (2000) Breaking harshly at 60-70 mph the whole front end judders like Lee Evans on stage at a dry cleaners convention. I'm thinking wishbones. Anybody had this problem. Would appreciate advice and experiences.
Cheers

Hi,
Although not on an Omega, exactly as you describe, I had this problem on a Safrane.
Eventually traced to Safrane equivalent of wishbone bushes.

Good place to start. Myn does similar, sometimes on the brakes sometimes not, road surfaces can set it off. Not at any particular speed, but 30 to 40 mostly. My bushes are shot. Especially the left side.

Had the same problem and new Wishbones cured it.

Had the same on mine a while back. It was the front (horizontal) bushes in the wishbone(s). Could be felt most noticeably through the gear selector on the auto.

Don't discount wheel balance though. Unbalanced wheels resonate at about 60.

My wishbone bushes were shot. I didn't have vibration or wobble. What I did have was a sort of indecision from the front when I applied the brakes. No pulling - it just seemed to take a short time to make it's mind up to stay straight.

There's a how-to here on wishbones. (Note that the bolts and nuts are both 21mm - not 21/22mm as stated in the how-to). Wishbone How-To

Cheers Guys. Had the wheels balanced last week and that sorted a 55-70 mph wobble. Wishbones it is then. Thanks for the link.

And if you don't have two 21mm sockets, yet have an imperial set as well then a 13/16th AF fits perfectly. :y
