removal of gearstick gaiter
« on: 16 August 2008, 10:35:56 »

hi all.

i cant seem to work out how to get the old leather gearstick gaiter off  of the gearstick without ripping it to shreds. does the gear stick knob/head come off? i have the auto box. handbrake gaiter was easy, but this one is like something off of the krypton factor.

cheers  :y

Not sure about Auto but on a manual if you pull it at the bottom of the leather it pulls out along with the plastic frame thing it is stapled onto then slips over the top of the nob. However isnt a nob on a auto bigger?

You need to remove the centre console (not to hard actually).

Disconnect the lever under the car.

Drill out the rivits holdsing the lever plate to the tunnel

Then you can get at the pivot bolt to allow removal of lever.
