Which manufacturer/where to buy cambelt kit for V6
« on: 15 September 2008, 16:55:26 »

Hi all,
I want to follow the advice to change the timing belt when not known for sure that it had come new during the last 40k miles.
I was now wondering which should be the manufacturer of my choice and maybe somebody has a reasonable place where to purchase a full kit.
Currently I am thinking of going for this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330242780972&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=014 Gates kit. I recall Gates as a reliable manufacturer.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your reply!

Gates or Vauxhall (which I think is Gates?)

Anyone near you have a Trade Club card?

SKF (supplied with Gates belt) and Contitech kits are fine too, and usually have markings unlike the Vauxhall kits.

Yeah, got a Gates kit on mine.

I am happy with it, all seems OK and for £80, you cant go wrong.

Thanks

I bought the kit from Vauxhall but bought a Gates belt for £21 from a motor factor because the Gates belt has the markings and not having changed one before I needed them! Next time I'll just buy the Gates kit.

Just recently bought one a Gates kit for £53 off egay the one your looking at I did look at too, but as it happens the engine number its for was newer than mine anyway found one on egay to fit mine
This one fits mine from  buyer i bought mine off>>> but he as two types for sale the kit seems alright havnt used it yet but its all there & cheaper too !
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-VECTRA-OMEGA-V6-GATES-CAM-TIMING-BELT-KIT_W0QQitemZ250295425356QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250295425356&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14

Thats the other

So yer pays yer money & takes the chance in saying that went to VX dealers for an original fan belt as plan doing it at same time and it was Contitech brand ? :-? As seemingly according other members some other brands are sometimes a bit shorter than what VX dealers stock causing them to be tight i believe!
they cost just over £20 Trade club price

Bought 2 x contitech kits from buypartsby - £50 each (now gone up to£60 each) - fast delivery no probs fitting.  Both Gates & Contitech are oem manufacturers.  Don't buy aftermarket kits.
