maybe not transmission problems!!
« on: 17 September 2008, 11:53:13 »

hi

I posted a week or so ago, as i had just got a new omega, and thought it may have a gearbox problem.  I now believe otherwise!!

The front driver side wheel has toe and heel wear on the inside edge, and the passenger wheel is buckled, would the two be related, the only other thing i can think is the suspension, and i do believe the rear suspension is suspect.

I have read that this sort of tyre wear can sound like transmission noise, so i think this may be it, also i'm fairly sure the vibrating i mentioned is the buckled wheel.

In the process of doing all this, i decided to clean the icv and breather tubes, as the car was stalling, it was late, and i confess i was a tad foolish and rather than take the small hose off and clean the egg shapped nozzle bit near the throttle body i sprayed a load of carb cleaner down it and hoped it'd work :-[ :-[

the car now wont start first time, and initially wouldnt start at all, i'm hoping it just needs to dry out, but the real worry is a very quiet alarm that goes off when i try to start it.
It sounds like its coming from near the brake fluid resevoir under the bonnet, and is simmilar in sound to the power sounder only it is quieter by miles, and higher pitch.  The power sounder works ok btw.

one final thing, i keep getting traffic master messages when it wont start, is the ecu gone mad??

anyhoo, any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you intend to use trafficmaster, disconnect it :exclamation The only "alarm" near the reservoir is the power sounder I believe. Are you sure the sounder is ok and it`s not the alarm horn that works ok :question

ah, that might be the case, the alarm i meant by power sounder was the one that goes of when you unlock the door manually, it does sound like a horn though so you may well be right.

what then is the power sounder for??

Is there a guide somewhere for the traffic master disconnection?

Trafficmaster box usually tied to loom up under the pedals. It sounds as if the battery in the power sounder is knacked. It`s a sealed unit but you may be able to cut it open and replace battery. Personally I`d just disconnect it I believe it`s only a backup for the alarm horn :)

Much obliged, will have a look at that, and with a bit of luck that might be one of my things ticked off my list :)

I took them to be done, but the passenger side front one is buckled so needs replacing, as it cant be balanced properly, the drivers side is showing the uneven wear, but the balance was ok.

Tracking was also ok, but stuff like the camber and toe in was not checked.  I plan to replace all the wheels and then get them aligned properly.

does anyone know anywhere nearish london that is a good place to go?
