Wiring for Manual conversion?
« on: 22 September 2008, 17:31:56 »

Is there any chance of putting up some pics where the wiring needs to be done please? and labeling the wires also.

I need to get cruise and reverse lights working again.

Out of curiosity why does the Lambda sensors and Ignition Timing Retard wiring need doing?

Lambda sensor is only a matter of cable length, with the connectors clipped im the usual place on the manual box then the auto loom wont reach them......just move the connectors a bit till the loom reaches.

Ignition retard.....when the auto box wants to change gear it signals the engine ecu to reduce output power by taking a wire to +12V, the engine ecu responds by going to full ignition retard. If you dont tie this wire to 0V it will 'float' to +12V and you will have snail-like performance and a very thirsty engine.

I hope you have seen the how-to on auto to manual. I dont have any photos of the wiring mods, I thought it was fairly straight forward and the wire colours are in the how-to. Have you a specific wiring problem or are you just unsure how to start?

Thanks for replying  :y, I dont know where the wiring needs to be done i.e under the car, under the gearshift surround.

When I converted mine, I took the selector switch of the auto box and left it attached to the loom so I can start it. Thats as much wiring as I did (Plus the break pedal switch).

Should have all the info you need. I wouldnt leave the selector switch in circuit, it relies on the selector movement to wipe the contacts clean, leaving it fixed in one position will likely lead to bad connections and problems.

Think this is a job for the weekend. Just had a look at the selector switch wiring, had very limited access to look at wires, need to jack car up higher on axel stands.

Is the reverse light switch wire a 2 wire connection? I spotted this wire but cant see where it lead to, I dont know if its from the manual box or from the cars loom and would of fitted to the autobox.

Had a look at doing the Ignition timing retard wires, I found the black/red wire on pin 42 but didnt know which thin brown wire to connect to (theres quite a few also alot with another colour) and how.

Tried to find the clutch switch wiring to no avail. I couldnt feel it taped to the loom anywhere (might try using a mirror and a torch to see if I can spot it otherwise it looks like cruise is out of the window).

When I did the conversion I werent lookin forward to finishing off the wiring >:( >:( >:( and now I remember why lol ;D ;D ;D
