Key Recoding

Can the later button keys be recoded to your car???

I prefer the rubber key central locking release I have on my cars to the harder plastic version...so can I swap it onto the other key and have it reprogrammed??

Also rough price (I have the carpass)

Keys are identical as far as number and position of buttons are concerned...both keys are 98...just one is hard plastic with 2 oval buttons and a picture of a car with an open door at the bottom and the other has a more defined shape to the 2 buttons both rectangular with 2 straight lines on one button and a straight and angled line on the other...
The attached key part swaps straight over between the 2 keys...

Both same make (usually megamos for minifacelifts)?

Just looked on ebay and seems you can simply buy (or swap) the front cover of the fob over...seems the nice rubber shaped one I like is the newer version...so would save the problems if I can just undo it and swap the cover over :) Will let you know :)

should be able to just swap innards over.

Yeah seems you can...cool :)

Just checked on the key I have thats snapped off...all undoes...also managed to find out why the remote fob bit for that key didnt work...seems the battery bit inside had come away from the circuit board...placed back in position with some paper behind it and its working again...I presume some fine solder on the 2 metal bits would fix it properly I guess but seems to work for now anyway :) lol

But if not presumably could pay (chokes) Vaux to recode the innards of one of the other keys that doesnt have the broken off battery...

Solder batt connector back on. If you can't, Try Martin Imber.

Doesnt matter...broken one is the spare fob for a car I dont use...and it wasnt working before...is now with some paper stuffed in...at least if it stops working I will know how to fix it or who to go to anyway :)
